This one-day practical workshop will teach the principles of external skeletal fixator use, followed by surgery on plastic bones. Live surgical videos will reinforce key skills including use of ESFs for fracture repair, joint luxations and ligament or tendon repairs.

You will learn the various fixator types, safe tissue corridors and how to avoid or resolve complications. Delegates will practice the techniques on plastic bones under expert supervision and will finish the day feeling confident to use external skeletal fixators on real patients.

Key Skills:

  • Construct and apply linear fixators to repair simulated fractures
  • Place a hinged transarticular fixator across a simulated collateral ligament injury of the hock
  • Understand how to use fracture biomechanics, fracture biology and clinical factors to guide component selection and frame configuration
