Description
This one-day workshop will address the challenges faced when presented with a dog with Brachycephalic Obstructive Airway Syndrome. It will aid both your medical and surgical decision making in these complex and often urgent cases.
You will learn about the anatomical and pathophysiologic changes associated with BOAS and the surgical techniques to correct them, as well as pre- and post-operative management of these compromised patients.
Delegates will have plenty of opportunity to practice surgical techniques in a wet-lab setting.

At the end of this workshop delegates should be able to:
- Appropriate case and airway surgery procedure selection for dogs with brachycephalic conformation
- Appropriate perioperative care for dogs with brachycephalic obstructive airway syndrome undergoing surgery
- Perform basic surgical techniques for improving brachycephalic obstructive airway syndrome.
Speaker Biography
Tristram Bennett
BVSc (distinction), MANZCVS (surgery), DACVS-SA, dipl ECVS
Surgical Specialist
Tristram is a surgical specialist/surgical oncologist based at SASH in Sydney. He graduated from Massey University in New Zealand in 2010 and spent a number of years in general small animal practice before he completed his American College of Veterinary Surgeons residency at Brisbane Veterinary Specialist Centre. Tristram then undertook a Fellowship Surgical Oncology at Colorado State University. He has been working as a surgeon at SASH in Sydney since 2017.
Tristram has a keen interest in all aspects of surgery especially soft tissue and oncology surgery.

Due to the recent increase both in popularity of brachycephalic breeds and the compromise of their welfare due to indiscriminate breeding, surgical correction of BOAS is frequently sought after to improve the quality of life of these animals.
