Dr. Brian Beale DVM, Diplomate, American College of Veterinary Surgery, ACVS Founding Fellow, Minimally-Invasive Orthopedic Surgery, Board Certified Veterinary Surgeon

This one-day course will discuss diagnosis and treatment of ligamentous injuries of the stifle and tarsus. Participants will have the opportunity to use the OrthoSta Ligament Repair System to treat a variety of ligament injuries.

Joint instability commonly occurs due to ligament or tendon injury leading to pain and lameness. Ligament injury commonly occurs secondary to trauma or chronic overloading of the joint. Traumatic ligament tears can be treated by primary repair or ligament reconstruction.

Primary repair of ligaments is performed using appropriate suture materials and patterns. Ligament reconstruction is typically performed using prosthetic materials anchored to the bone. The ligament should be of adequate strength and resistant to elongation. The method of attachment should be secure and protect the ligament from wear.
